This article, recently published by Majdan et al in the Scandinavian Journal of Trauma, Resuscitation and Emergency Medicine, provides an important collection of mortality data for traumatic spinal cord injury from all over Europe.
Very few earlier studies have managed to offer such a comprehensive overview of the epidemiology of tSCI. This underscores its importance and makes it essential reading for those who care for spinal cord trauma patients. Population-based mortality rates seem to vary quite significantly between European nations, as does the proportion of overall traumatic deaths that can be attributed to SCI. The authors provide compelling analyses as to why this could be. Well worth a read.
